My work is about integrating my love of form and drawing! I illustrate my work using "clay etchings" and sprigs on the form, creating a world in which small acts of everyday life are revealed in fine detail!
A teacher by trait, my love for ceramics started at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg (USA) where my husband furthered his studies. I completed my B-Tech in Ceramics in 1998 at the Vaal Triangle Technikon, where I received numerous awards. After lecturing for two years at that institution, we moved to Botswana where I pursued a career as art teacher at the Cambridge Secondary School in Gaborone Botswana for seven years.
Back in South Africa, I am currently a full time ceramic artist with my own studio and have started participating in exhibitions. I also completed the "Mentorship Programme" with John Shirley that helped me in my on-going maturation as a ceramic artist. In 2011 I received a Highly Commended award at the Ultra-Furn Exhibition at the University of Pretoria! I also received on the 13 May 2012 at the MuseuMAfricA "The Glazekor premier Award for Best work for Use" and 2014 the Ndebele Premier Award at Gauteng Regional Exhbition. My new work explores porcelain and its endless yet daunting possibilities.
